Telegram will not let you register without a phone number, and by default that number is visible to everyone who has you in their contacts. For a business profile, channel management or plain privacy, a one-time virtual number is the practical route: you receive the number, read the code in your dashboard, finish sign-up, and your personal line never appears anywhere.
Read this before anything else
A virtual number is single-use. Once verification is done it returns to the pool and cannot receive SMS again. When you log in from a new device, Telegram sends the code to your open sessions first, and only falls back to SMS on that number if no session exists. Two rules follow:
- Never log out of every device. Keep at least one active session. Switching phones? Log in on the new one first, then sign out of the old one.
- Settings → Privacy and Security → Two-Step Verification: set a cloud password and add a recovery email. This also protects the account against takeover attempts.
Skip these and a factory reset locks you out for good. Everything below assumes you follow them.
Step-by-step Telegram verification
- Open Get a number and choose Telegram as the service.
- Pick a country that matches the IP you are connecting from (see the table).
- The number appears in seconds; type it into Telegram with the country code.
- When Telegram says the code was sent by SMS, watch the dashboard. Delivery usually takes 5–60 seconds.
- Enter the code, set your name and profile.
- Immediately enable two-step verification and add the recovery email.
The number stays active for about 15 minutes after purchase. If no code arrives in that window, the charge is refunded to your balance automatically.

Telegram is far less strict than Instagram about the gap between connection country and number country. When the code does not arrive
Three causes cover almost every case:
- The number was already used on Telegram. Telegram then sends the code to that old account's app instead of SMS; the screen says the code was sent to your Telegram app. You cannot proceed with this number. Wait 2–3 minutes, cancel the order so the refund lands, and take a new number.
- Too many attempts. Requesting codes back-to-back triggers a temporary block on Telegram's side. Do not hammer "resend".
- Call verification was selected. Virtual numbers do not receive voice calls; always stay on the SMS option.

Ban risk and safe use
Telegram punishes behaviour, not numbers. On day one, avoid joining dozens of groups, mass-messaging strangers or importing hundreds of contacts; these trigger spam limits even on a physical SIM. Frequently asked questions
I can hide my number in Telegram, so why buy a virtual one? Hiding only removes the number from view. It still sits in Telegram's records, and anyone who saved your number in their contacts can find you. A virtual number separates the account from your personal line entirely.
Can I get the same number again later? No. After the session ends the number returns to the pool and may be issued to someone else. That is exactly why you keep a session open and enable two-step verification.
Does it work for Telegram Premium or creating bots? Yes. An account is an account: buying Premium and creating bots through BotFather work the same as with any other account.
How many accounts can I create? One number per account; the Telegram app allows up to three accounts per device. Mass-creating accounts for spam puts both the accounts and your IP at risk.
