A US number (+1) is needed in three situations: the app accepts only US numbers, you want the account in the service's US region, or the sign-up screen refuses the number from your country. The fix is the same in all three: a one-time US virtual number. You receive the number, type it into the sign-up screen, read the code in your dashboard and verify the account without sharing your personal line. The number is yours for 15 minutes; if no code arrives, the charge is refunded.
Why a US number?
- Services that accept only US numbers. Local marketplaces such as Craigslist and OfferUp, some rewards and promotion apps and US-only subscriptions require a +1 number to sign up.
- Region-bound accounts. On services like TikTok, Tinder and Discord, a US number combined with a US IP opens the account in the US region; content, matches and server options follow.
- Screens that reject your country. Some sign-up forms do not list your country at all or never send a code to its prefix.
- A real number even to get a US VoIP number. Services like Google Voice require an existing US number during setup and reject VoIP numbers; you need a real +1 line to start.
A US number is the +1 country code plus 10 digits: a three-digit area code and seven digits. Canada also uses +1, but services tell the countries apart by area code; do not assume Canada will do, choose the United States.
VoIP versus a real US number
In the US, services look up the carrier behind a number. App numbers from TextNow, Google Voice and the like are classed as "VoIP", and most services reject them with "This phone number is not supported"; a real carrier line is required. SimBlink numbers come from service-specific pools; if a service rejects the number or no code arrives, the charge is refunded and you take a new number. The class difference is explained in what is a non-VoIP virtual number.
Step by step: verifying with a US number
- Open Get a number, choose the service first (Instagram, TikTok, Telegram and so on), then choose United States as the country.
- A number starting with +1 appears in your dashboard; on the service's sign-up screen pick "United States (+1)" from the country list and type the remaining 10 digits.
- Request the code; it usually appears in the dashboard within 5–30 seconds. Enter it in the service.
- Once the account is open, add and verify an email and set up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, so you do not depend on the number.
- If no code arrives within 15 minutes, the order is refunded automatically; the rule is on the refund policy page.
Do I need a US IP?
Services that accept only US numbers usually look at the IP as well; connect through a VPN or proxy with a US exit in that case. Global services (Instagram, Telegram, Facebook) generally accept a US number from a non-US IP, but a mismatch can trigger extra verification. Match the number's country with your IP whenever you can; the general logic is in the country selection guide.
Which services work smoothly with a US number?
| Service | US compatibility | Note |
|---|---|---|
| High | Wide US stock; pricier than Asian countries | |
| TikTok | High | Use a US IP too for the US region |
| Telegram | High | May ask for an extra code on some +1 ranges |
| Discord | High | Smooth for server verifications |
| Tinder | High | A US IP is needed for a US location |
| Google / Gmail | Medium | Google checks US numbers for VoIP strictly |
| Medium | US numbers are expensive and stock is thin; see the WhatsApp guide |

Why are US numbers more expensive?
For the same service a US number costs several times more than an Indonesian or Philippine one. Three reasons: carrier stock is limited, demand is high, and services check US numbers more strictly, so pools are refreshed often. Prices change within the hour depending on the service and current stock; the price on the purchase screen is the one that applies. If the target service does not require a specific country, a cheap Asian country does the same job; if it does require the US, paying the difference beats wasting time on a cheap number that will be rejected.
When no code arrives
- The service classed the number as VoIP. "This phone number is not supported". Cancel and take a new number; the charge is refunded.
- SMS sent from a short code. US services send codes from 5–6 digit "short code" senders; some numbers cannot receive them. Try another number, then another country if it persists.
- Wrong country selected. If the sign-up screen says anything other than "United States", the +1 number may be treated as Canadian and no code is sent.
- Too many attempts. After a few codes in a short time services make you wait; take a 15–30 minute break.
General causes are covered in SMS verification code not received.
One-time or permanent?
SimBlink numbers are single-use: once verification is done the number returns to the pool and is no longer yours. Add an email and an authenticator app as soon as the account is open; you will not be able to receive a future code on that number. Banks, government services and anything that keeps sending SMS need a permanent line; a one-time number is not suited to those. The whole concept is in what is a temporary phone number.
Frequently asked questions
Can I log in from my own country later with an account opened on a US number? Yes. An IP change triggers extra verification on some services; with email and an authenticator app set up you pass it.
Canada is +1 as well; does it matter? It does. Services recognize the country from the area code; where the US is required, a Canadian number may be rejected. Choose the United States.
Can I open WhatsApp with a US number? You can, but stock is thin and the price is high; if WhatsApp does not require a specific country, cheaper countries exist.
How long do I keep the number? About 15 minutes. If the code does not arrive in that window, the charge is refunded automatically.
